Mustaccioli, sweets of Arab origin, are biscuits without leavening characterized by a compact consistency and a special icing called naspro, whose name derives from the Byzantine term aspros, which means “white”. Traditionally white, today these biscuits can also be found covered with dark cocoa icing, for an even more intense flavor. Widespread throughout Southern Italy as typical Christmas sweets, in Salento mustaccioli are enjoyed all year round. They are perfect for breakfast, a snack or as a dessert at the end of a meal, accompanied by a glass of wine or liqueur, for a moment of pleasure with an authentic flavor and rich in tradition.
